Maintenance & winter-ready
A little maintenance keeps your electric scooter safe and smooth for years. Most of the work takes little time: checking tyres, inspecting brakes, keeping it clean and storing the battery well. In this guide we walk through the routine and give practical tips to get your scooter winter-ready, so you set off again worry-free in spring.
Tyres, brakes and bolts
These three checks are best done regularly, and together they take only a few minutes:
- Tyre pressure — check pneumatic tyres for the correct pressure; too soft costs range and grip and increases the risk of a flat. Inspect the tread for wear from time to time and replace a tyre in good time.
- Brakes — test whether the scooter brakes well and evenly. Adjust the brakes or have them checked if in doubt; good brakes are crucial for your safety, especially in wet weather.
- Bolts and stem clamp — check that everything is firmly fixed, especially the folding hinge and the stem clamp. Tighten loose bolts in time, because play in the steering is dangerous.
Hear or feel something unusual, such as rattling, a soft brake or play? Have it checked in time rather than riding on. A little maintenance now prevents bigger repairs later.
Battery storage in winter
The battery is the most vulnerable part in the cold, and in winter especially a scooter often stands idle for weeks. Before the winter break, do the following:
- Store the scooter dry and frost-free; not in an uninsulated shed or garage that gets freezing cold.
- Keep the battery half charged (around 50–60%) if you won't use it for a while, and top it up a little from time to time so it doesn't drain deeply.
- Don't charge a cold battery right away; let it reach room temperature gently first before you plug it in.
That way you start spring with a battery still in top condition. Riding in winter too? Then bear in mind that range is temporarily lower in the cold and grip on wet or slippery surfaces is reduced. Read more about that in our battery and range guide.
Cleaning and firmware
Finally, keep the scooter in top condition with these last steps, which make the difference for its lifespan:
- Cleaning — wipe the scooter with a damp cloth; use no pressure washer, as water under high pressure can get into the electronics and the battery. Keep the charging port clean and dry and cover it when riding in the rain.
- Moving parts — keep the folding hinge smooth and free of dirt, and lubricate where the manufacturer recommends.
- Firmware — if your model has an app, install available firmware updates for the latest improvements, a more accurate battery gauge and safety settings.

Veelgestelde vragen
How often should I maintain my electric scooter?
Check tyre pressure, brakes and bolts regularly, certainly before longer rides. Clean the scooter when needed and keep the folding hinge smooth; if in doubt about the brakes, have them checked.
How do I store my scooter in winter?
Store the scooter dry and frost-free, keep the battery half charged (around 50–60%) and top it up occasionally. Don't charge a cold battery right away, but let it reach room temperature first.
Can I clean my electric scooter with a pressure washer?
No. Use only a damp cloth; a pressure washer can force water into the electronics and cause damage. Keep the charging port clean and dry.
